How it works
Three steps from URL to badge in under 10 seconds
Enter your URL
Paste any public website URL. We fetch the page and measure its transfer size in bytes.
Get your CO₂ grade
We calculate grams of CO₂ per pageview using SWDM v4 and assign a grade from A (excellent) to F.
Embed your badge
Pro users get an embeddable SVG badge that updates automatically with every new scan.
Everything you need
A full toolkit for measuring and reducing your digital carbon footprint
SWDM v4 methodology

Grade A–F
Instant letter grade so visitors understand your carbon score at a glance.
Embeddable badge
A live SVG badge you can paste into your site footer. Automatically reflects your latest scan.

Frequently asked questions
What is Carbon Badge?
Carbon Badge measures the CO2 emissions of any web page using the Sustainable Web Design Model (SWDM) v4 — the same methodology used by Website Carbon Calculator. Enter any URL and instantly get a grade from A to F with actionable recommendations.
How is website carbon footprint calculated?
We measure the transfer size of a page in bytes, convert to gigabytes, then apply: CO2 = GB × 0.194 kWh/GB × 494 gCO2/kWh. If the site uses green hosting, we apply a 24.3% reduction factor. The 0.194 kWh/GB covers data centres, networks, and end-user devices.
What does "green hosting" mean?
Green hosting providers power their servers with renewable energy. We check each domain against the Green Web Foundation database of verified green hosts. Green-hosted sites get a better CO2 score because their grid is cleaner.
Is the scanner really free?
Yes — the basic single-page scan is free with no account needed. Pro plans (from €9/mo) unlock multi-page scans, the embeddable badge, and automatic monitoring.
Can I display a badge on my website?
Yes. Pro and Business plan subscribers get an embeddable SVG badge that updates automatically. Just paste one line of HTML into your site footer.
What is Ecoping?
Ecoping was a website carbon footprint monitoring tool that calculated an EcoScore out of 100 using the Sustainable Web Design method. Ecoping has since stopped accepting new users. Carbon Badge is a free, actively maintained Ecoping alternative — with instant scans, no signup required, and an open embeddable badge system.
How does Carbon Badge compare to Ecoping?
Both tools measure website carbon emissions, but Carbon Badge uses the SWDM v4 methodology and offers instant, free scans with no account needed. Carbon Badge also provides an embeddable SVG badge and an A-to-F grading system. Unlike Ecoping — which has shut down new registrations — Carbon Badge is actively maintained and free for everyone to use.
